8 Ethical Fashion Brands Changing the Industry

Hello, lovely readers!

This post is sponsored by Nakturnal, but all opinions are my own.

Over the summer, I read an article from Vogue that detailed how awful fast fashion is regarding sustainability. The fashion industry is the second-worst contributor to global warming. Yikes! I had no idea that my love for fashion contributed to environmental destruction.

In lieu of this revelation, I overhauled my life to be more environmentally friendly. One of the biggest ways I did that was to shop more sustainably by choosing brands that had ethical practices (slow fashion, ethical work environments, energy consumption, etc.) and used more sustainable materials in their collections. But how does one know which brand is right for them? That’s why I’ve put together a list of the best ethical fashion brands to answer that question!

1. Au-Rate

Au-Rate is a jewelry company dedicated to utilizing sustainable materials and practices when creating beautiful jewelry. Their collections include pieces for every type of jewelry maven, from dainty to statement! I love their gold earrings the most.

2. Dazey LA

Founded by Danielle Nagel, Dazey LA takes slow fashion to a new level by focusing on female empowerment with t-shirts sporting phrases like “Mental Health Matters” and “I Am Enough.” Their range includes clothing, jewelry, shoes, and home decor.

3. Reformation

With celebrities sporting the clothing line daily, Reformation has quickly taken over the ethical fashion industry. Reformation creates sustainable clothing by first looking at the fibers in the raw materials stage and going from there, stating, “We tried to make these standards as holistic as possible, taking into consideration water input, energy input, land use, eco-toxicity, greenhouse gas emissions, human toxicity, availability, and price. We also looked at garment care implications, like microfiber shedding.” (Source).

4. Allbirds

Allbirds has become one of my favorite sustainable brands because of their super-comfy shoes! I’ve been sporting their Tree Skippers in the color Kauri Jo since the summer. They use ethically and sustainably-sourced wool, and for their “Tree” line, they use eucalyptus tree fiber which is “naturally derived and renewable, too, meaning it’s much friendlier to the environment than traditional shoe stuff.” (Source).

5. Girlfriend Collective

Girlfriend Collective is a favorite among the athleisure crowd, with products ranging from performance leggings to cute windbreakers. Along with designing super chic activewear, they pride themselves on their sustainable practices, which include making their fabrics out of recycled water bottles from Taiwan. (Source). This takes recycling to a whole new level!

6.  Alternative Apparel

Alternative Apparel’s sustainability largely comes from its materials, which include organic cotton and modal. (Source). They have a wide array of products geared toward those who are attracted to classic styles and comfy fabrics, and their pieces will look good no matter what you pair with them.

7. Threads 4 Thought

Threads 4 Thought’s mission includes using sustainable materials, including recycled polyester, ensuring ethical working conditions in their factories, and partnering with the International Rescue Committee. 8. Pact

Pact uses “Organic Cotton, Fair Trade Factory Certified, zero harmful chemicals, and processes that use significantly less water than conventional cotton” to maintain its sustainability. (Source). From solid dresses to comfy underwear, Pact has many basics to build your outfit around. They even carry kid’s clothes and home decor!

Until my next post, lovely readers! This was such a fun post because it gave me more insight into the world of ethical fashion. I highly recommend checking out these brands!
